How do I know that the Bible is telling the truth?

What a good question. How do I know that a 2000 year old book tells the truth?
I'll give you several tracks:
- first: historically, the traces of authenticity of the Bible are enormous. Comparing the book of Julius Caesar's "Gallic War" and the Bible, there are 100 times more likely that the Bible is authentic!
- secondly, the Bible is consistent. This means that when you read the Bible, there is no passage that has nothing to do with others. When we read the Bible from the perspective of Jesus, we realize that everything is in the same direction. And so, with more than 40 authors different, who wrote in a period of 15 centuries.
- thirdly, some of the things the Bible said came true. This gives reason to believe the rest will come true too, right? For example, today, no serious historian would say that Jesus never existed. The early Christians were really persecuted as the Bible says.
- fourth: the Bible does not seek to justify herself, she said things that, for the time, did not play really in his favor. For example, it is women who first, find the risen Jesus. Now then, we did not trust women. If the authors of the Bible had tried to manipulate public opinion, they would give more credence to their story, saying that they were men.
In conclusion, I could give you all the reasonable arguments to convince you that the Bible tells the truth, but I think that only you can believe it. There is another step to be called faith, and nobody can do for you, to believe that this is not a fable, but the truth with a capital V. The truth that God has a plan for humanity, from beginning to end, with Jesus Christ from beginning to end, to give him glory.
So satisfactory response ?

Does believing in God take away my freedom?

Does believing in God take away my freedom? Is that to make the leap to believe in God will imprison me?

According to the Bible, freedom is more complicated than we think. From the biblical point of view, freedom is not unrestricted, but the presence of restrictions in our good nature. The fish are free when operating in an environment that is consistent with their nature: while in the grass, they are not free, but choke, whereas when in the water, they are free as a fish Water!
Thus, freedom is not absolute absence of any restriction, but the presence of restrictions based on our good nature. According to the Bible, man was made in the image of God, and the consequence is that it is truly free when he has the image of God.
The problem is that man rebelled against God, and the consequence is that he is now unable to live up to that image. That is why Jesus said that "everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin."
Sin is the fact to live in rebellion against God. And we are all well: in rebellion against our Creator, so that true freedom is to live according to God's image.

In fact, if one wants to believe that we can be free without God is to be like the captain of a ship sailing with the cards he has made himself. Dangerous places are not marked on it, and one day he wrecked. It's invent our own truth, rather than to believe in universal truth.
And at the risk of disappointing you, none of us here is truly free: we've all caught a cold, and we will all die. These are things that we do not want, yet we can not free ourselves. When you have a cold, we are slaves of a tiny microbe!
All we want to be free, freedom does not depend on us. Being free is not only an illusion if we accept to live according to our nature, in God's image.
Jesus lost his freedom so that we are free. He died to free us from our rebellion against God. The consequence is that the image of God is restored in those who know the benefit of his sacrifice. So, ready to become free?

Is God against pleasure?

Frankly, when you look at the laws of Christianity, it looks really boring. Do not make fun of people, unable to sleep with whoever you want. Christians do not look funny in life is to go to church one Sunday to sing with the head of a funeral. One has the impression that Christians have banned the pleasure of their lives. So God is against pleasure?

me stop you right away, God is pleased. Indeed, what is the first miracle of Jesus? He changed water into wine readjust our best Bordeaux in the rank of cheap wine. Jesus taught in banquets and meals.
And then, for example, in proverbs are: "Let your joy of the wife of your youth, doe loves, graceful gazelle; intoxicating yourself with her breasts at any time, be ceaselessly drunk with love." And yes, surprise, who created sex? It is God!

That said, God is lucid enough on our earthly pleasure. The book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament is the story of a guy who tries all the pleasures on earth. He partied, he drinks like a fish, he becomes the smartest man, the richest man, and he even has 700 wives and 300 concubines.
And yet, this man says he is dissatisfied, he does not know the ultimate happiness. He is afraid of death and in 100 years, everyone has forgotten.
Our earthly pleasure is relative: you put a bass drum, drink like a fish, you'll spend a good evening! But I can not tell you the headache the next day, you will regret every minute of fun! Sleep with whoever you want, but each failure will be an additional tear in your heart.

As God is lucid on our earthly pleasure, it puts limits. Why? Because the Bible tells how man has perverted into wanting to live without God. Suddenly, the human notion of fun, very imperfect, can be dangerous if not framed. Indeed, the pleasure may :
- take the place of God (and become an idol);
- be taken at the expense of its neighbor, rape, theft, adultery and farms of all kinds are a good example, sex is
limited to marriage - may turn to self-destruction: addiction, depravity progressive laziness. That's Why God
limits the earthly pleasure, it's for our good, he knows us as if we had created!

Finally, Jesus promises something interesting for those who put their faith in Him after death, they will participate in a huge wedding feast, they live in a new creation without of all evil short of pure pleasure and this for eternity!

Ultimately, God is totally for real fun, for true happiness ... rather the man who prefers a pale copy of the original.
